Is Coffee Good Or Bad For Your Health?
There are millions of people worldwide who would
find it
difficult to consider starting their day without a cup of
coffee.
It has become part of our life. A lot of people may even be addicted to
coffee. We see a StarBucks on every
corner. It is true that coffee tastes good. Not many things can be
compared with coffee. However, is coffee good or bad for you? There is
no definite answer. Some people say that coffee is good but at the same
time there are also people who say it is bad.
As in all things, you must drink coffee in moderation.
A cup or two
each day isn't going to be bad for you. If on the other hand you are
drinking a pot every hour, you know that it will have an effect on you.
We have known people who drink coffee like this. They drink it from the
time they wake up to the time they go to bed. This is common in
alcoholics. Let's talk about some of the bad things about coffee.
Coffee stains your teeth
You may be well aware that coffee can stain your teeth. It is just like
cigarette smoking. However, you can always purchase something to whiten
your teeth. We would suggest though that instead of trying to whiten
your
teeth, you cut back a little on the brew.
Bad breath
Have you ever had a whiff of the breath of someone who is a heavy
coffee drinker? It smells horrible.
It raises stress levels
Caffeine in coffee stimulates adrenal glands, which increase one's
stress level for up to 18 hours. Drinking too much coffee can raise
anxiety levels. When this happens, you can
become stressed out.
It can raise the risk of a heart attack
While this is somewhat controversial, it shouldn't be much of a
surprise. Drinking too much coffee can raise the chances of having a
heart attack.
Sterility
Caffeine can effect the little guys swimming in your semen. It can
actually lower your sperm count. If couple having problem
getting
pregnant, you might consider cutting down on the caffeine
intake.
Stomach problems
People who drink too much coffee may have some stomach problems. The
caffeine irrates the lining of the stomach.
Cholesterol
Heavy consumption of boiled coffee elevates LDL (bad cholesterol)
levels. Read
more about cholesterol.
Osteoporosis
A daily intake of 4 cups (600 ml) of coffee or more
can increase the risk of osteoporosis, especially in women
with a
low calcium intake. Click here

Here are some benefits of coffee:
It prevents prostate cancer
This is too weird, but it is true. Coffee contains boron, which is a
chemical that helps curb prostate cancer.
It reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease
People who drink coffee regularly are less likely to develop
Parkinson's disease. Here are study 1
and study
2.
It lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.
There is a prospective study
found that moderate consumption of both caffeinated and decaffeinated
coffee may lower the risk of type 2 diabetes in younger and middle aged
women.
Social drink
Coffee is clearly a good social drink. People go to the coffee house to
chat
all the time. Rarely will you see people chatting over a glass of
orange juice. A cup of coffee could be a good reason to go out and meet
new people. A cup once and while can't hurt. You never know, you might
meet a good friend over that cup of Joe.
It helps wash down a meal
In many cultures it is impolite to either
start a meal or finish one without having a cup of coffee. No one is
certain that coffee actually helps the digestion process, but it sure
tastes good after a meal.
As with
all things in life,
you need to do things in moderation.
If you feel that you are over doing it, you need to cut back on the
coffee. Coffee might taste good, but in the long run you
are doing yourself more harm than good. Just keep in mind that one or
two cups per day isn't going to hurt you. |
